Comedy to cause chuckles at local theater

The company at Studio City’s Theater West will be staging a production of ‘The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940’ very soon.

The comedic play was penned by John Bishop and was first performed by the Circle Repertory Company in New York back in 1987, before moving on to Broadway.

The play is set in the library of a mansion in Chappaqua, New York in December of 1940 and centers on several characters that have come to the mansion to ostensibly audition for a part in a Broadway musical. In the opening scenes, a murder takes place and, shortly thereafter, the characters find themselves trapped as a snowstorm prevents them from leaving. The characters must deal with the fact that one of them is the likely killer, which provides multiple opportunities for various antics by the parties involved. Over time, the characters reveal secrets about themselves, as more and more murders occur.

The play is being directed by Michael Van Duzer and stars Don Moore, Jacque Lynn Colton, Ivy Jones, Anne Leyden, Michelle Holmes, and Scott Sieffert. Those planning to attend should perhaps bring digital Business Cards for sharing with other patrons.

The play will begin September 11, with presentations given on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the theater’s web site.
