Vacaville honors professor for efforts with biotechnology

Jim Dekloe, Professor and Director of the Biotechnology Program at Solano Community College, has been honored by the Vacaville City Council.

The Council has recognized Professor Dekloe’s role as a major partner in the biotechnology strategy of the city, and for advancing opportunities for local students in the industry, and has named a day in his honor.

Poster printing is often used to make a city aware of such recognitions and proclamations.

The efforts of Professor Dekloe were instrumental in offering a program in biotechnology at Solano Community College when it opened 25 years ago. The college was the first in the state to offer such a program working with Genentech Vacaville. The program focuses on the knowledge and skills needed for the manufacturing sector of the industry. Those who have already graduated from the program have since become leaders in the industry.

Since then, Professor Dekloe has added two new certificates in Gene and Cell Therapy and a Bachelor of Science degree in biomanufacturing and high school articulations. In 2017, the California Biomanufacturing Education was opened by the college which features state-of-the-art technology to further new opportunities in education.

Ron Rowlett, mayor of Vacaville, expressed his honor on behalf of the city for the dedication of Professor Dekloe to the community and its students, and his efforts to grow the city as a hub for biomanufacturing.

Wednesday, January 25 will be Professor Jim Dekloe Day.
