Researchers and scientists leading teams on four projects at the University of California (UC) San Diego are among the 30 teams from 73 academic institutions in the United States that will receive funds from the Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) awards program.
These funds are designed to foster innovative solutions to the more complex issues faced by the military, and will enable the transition of research into practical applications. Such funding and the projects they facilitate may be of interest to those in the nearby Sorrento Valley area. Announcements of awards and their impact on an area can be made known throughout a region with banner printing.
This is the second year in which UC San Diego has put in a strong showing among other awardees. Two years ago, the university was given five awards – three as a partner and two as the lead institution.
Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla expressed his honor that the university will be able to participate in groundbreaking projects that will enhance scientific discovery. He added that the university has always been dedicated to addressing the complex challenges facing the country and the world through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Corinne Peek-Asa, Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, expressed her pride that the university is at the forefront of transformative research initiatives that will drive innovation across diverse scientific disciplines, and enhance the defense capabilities of the US.
