Sophie’s Kensington Gallery in San Diego will be presenting an exhibit of stand-up-cutouts of David Walton and a retrospective Alfredo Santiago paintings next month.
Residents of Sorrento Valley will surely want to peruse this special exhibit, particularly those who have an interest in the fields of art and graphic design.
Santiago was a publisher, editor, and fashion consultant in New York City. Following a glaucoma diagnosis in 1993, he made a dramatic change in his life and renewed his interest in the arts. For the next 20 years until his death, he painted in oil and sculptured with bronze, stone, and clay. He saw his limited vision as a chance to see the world around him in a different way.
Walton has a quick drawing hand, yet pays attention to detail in his works. The National Arts and Disability Center and the California Arts Council recently award him a grant providing the funds for the purchase of foam core, rolls of paper, and special markers Pens. He used these to create stand-up-cutouts his life-size Medieval and Renaissance queens and kings in full regalia.
There will be a reception open to the public from 5:00 to 8:00 pm next Saturday, October 5. The exhibit will run from then through October 26 as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
