Residents of California’s Sorrento Valley are invited to join 14.5 million others all across the state, and the rest of the world, in making sure they are earthquake ready.
The California Shakeout is an event that will give those who take part a chance to learn what to do should the ground start to shake beneath their feet. The organizers highly encourage everyone to take part in what its planners say will be the largest drill of its kind ever held in the state. People can register as an individual, and workplaces, clubs, families and groups are also welcome.
Those who participate in the activity will learn about the simple safety measure of dropping to the floor, finding cover, and holding on until the tremors have passed. There will also be tips shared about what to do if they are driving, in a public place, or outdoors and the ground starts to move. There will also be information provided that can help someone in a wheelchair or other assistive device that keeps them from being able to get down and back up again. Booklet printing can be used to create safety handbooks and other materials for a large community function such as this.
October 19 has been chosen as the day for the 2017 Great California ShakeOut. The drill is scheduled to start at precisely 10:19 am, and the event’s website contains further details, tips, and information about how countries all over the world are participating in this day of earthquake safety.
