Sorrento Valley creates partnership to manufacture vaccine

INOVIO Pharmaceuticals, with a research and development center in Sorrento Valley, is working with Richter-Helm BioLogics GmbH & Co. KG, a contract-manufacturer in Germany, to expand its large-scale manufacturing of the company’s DNA vaccine for COVID-19.

A grant of $1.3m from the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) is helping to fund this project. Announcements of such partnerships and their benefits can be made known throughout the communities involved with flyer printing.

The President and CEO of INOVIO, Dr. J. Joseph Kim, expressed his gratitude to CEPI for this funding, which will enable the company to increase its work with Richter-Helm BioLogics and allow the vaccine to be manufactured at a large scale. He added that Richter-Helm has a great deal of experience working with the company’s building blocks of its vaccines, which have developed into the highest-quality medicines.

Dr. Kai Pohlmeyer, Managing Director of Richter-Helm, said his company has a strong, longstanding relationship with INOVIO and is planning to work very closely with the company to ensure there is an adequate supply of this vaccine so that it can contribute to the fight against the virus.

The production of one million doses of the vaccine is planned by INOVIO by the end of this year. The added capacity Richter-Helm is providing will enable the company to meet more immediate needs throughout the year.
