Later this summer, changes will begin on Sorrento Court, an outdoor strip mall in Sorrento Valley, to make it a more attractive retail and food plaza.
Owners of the property, The Festival Companies, are starting with a change in anchor tenants from Staples to Planet Fitness. The buildings in the central part of the strip will be renovated to make way for a modern food hall that will attract diners throughout the day. In addition to having communal seating, quick service, and multiple vendors, there will be local and artisan options with alcoholic beverages being served. Often such vendors benefit from Print shops that can Print Menus and other materials about their offerings.
CEO of The Festival Companies, Rosalind Schurgin, said the property, which now looks very dated, will be transformed to meet customers’ expectations using natural materials to create a more inviting environment. Some of the existing structures will be expanded and given face lifts.
Two small, standalone buildings will be demolished to create more shaded areas, lush landscaping, and areas for sitting. Schurgin added there will be a higher caliber of tenants. A change in the eateries, and the hope to attract service businesses including hair salons, spas, or medical offices.
The planned completion date is sometime next year with the expectation that the updated property will attract a daytime population of 138,300 people.
