New affordable housing available in Sorrento Valley area

City Heights Plaza Del Sol and City Heights Place are part of an affordable housing community that is now open in City Heights. Residents of nearby Sorrento Valley looking for such housing may be interested in these new developments.

The housing community provides 135 new apartments with one, two, or three bedrooms. Within walking distance are public transportation, restaurants, grocery stores, and the local YMCA.

City Heights Place is five stories tall with residential units across the five floors. Most of the units also include balconies. It also offers a public gathering area, a computer lab, and a large community area with a kitchen. There is a landscaped, open-air community deck on the second floor which also has a barbeque area with seating and a play structure for children. There is also a parking garage with 53 spaces and storage for bicycles and a bicycle repair station.

Public and private partnerships made the project possible and included such organizations as the city of San Diego, the County, Wakeland Housing, Price Philanthropies, among others. The Innovative Housing Trust Fund form the County contributed $3 million towards City Heights Place.

Over $305 million has been invested by the County in affordable housing since 2017. It is planning to contribute to another 3,286 units that will become available in the near future.
