The annual Free Comic Book Day will be coming to comic book industry next month and will be celebrated by 2,300 local comic shops, including several in the area of Sorrento Valley and San Diego.
This is the biggest event in the industry and is a day when participating book shops specializing in comic Books give away these items at no charge to anyone who comes into their shops. This is an event designed for both first-time readers of comic Books and long-time fans. Major players in the industry, including Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and IDW Publishing based in San Diego are supporters of this day.
Participating stores will be offering patrons the chance to select at least one of several comic Books that will be distributed that day. Each comic book will be color-coded for categorization so that patrons can select the one most suitable for their age and interest. Among the popular titles and characters offered will be Spider-Man, Star Trek, Conan the Barbarian, The Avengers, and X-Men.
Co-owner of TC’s Rockets, Chase Lirley, said that this has become a big holiday for comic book lovers. This event is like the Super Bowl for the comic book industry. Such major events can be promoted throughout a region with poster printing.
Free Comic Book Day will be held on Saturday, May 6.
