Locals in and around Sorrento Valley can take part in a special oceanography event at an aquarium in just a few days.
The Birch Aquarium at Scripps is hosting ‘Sea Days: Turtle Detectives’. During this investigative event, attendees are invited to look at the growth rings on turtle bone samples. Individuals can see how scientists use this information to learn more about a turtle’s life, including its age, diet, and where it lives.
Participants will get a chance to talk to Scripps Oceanography scientists and participate in hands-on activities. Afterwards, visitors can check out one of the many exhibits at the aquarium.
The event is one of the Sea Days programs offered at the aquarium. Each month, the venue offers programs based on recent research projects from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. To promote the event, it is likely a postcard printing service created a direct mailer to send out to the community.
The event is included with admission to the aquarium. Tickets cost $17 for adults, $14 for teens, $12.50 for children, and $13 for seniors. Kids two and under are free. Admission for college students with a valid ID is $12, while the cost for UCSD staff and students is $11. There are also membership options.
The event takes place this Saturday, May 16 from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. The Birch Aquarium is located on 2300 Expedition Way.
