Riverside relishes tamales at festival

Downtown Riverside will be brimming with ‘Peace, Love and Tamales’ at the Spanish Town Heritage Foundation’s 7th annual Riverside Tamale Festival coming in mid-April.

Attendees can expect tamales and other Mexican treats, live entertainment and plenty of cultural shopping at the arts, crafts and gifts vendors’ booths. A Family Connections Booths will have Mexican hospitality including story-telling, folklorico dancing, and traditional rhythmic music. A Best Tamale Competition, a VIP tamale tasting room, and two beer gardens will enhance the experience. Other entertainment will be lucha libre, judo and Zumba demonstrations.

The event is to commemorate the founding of Riverside and Colton when the 10 original families walked the Spanish Trail to settle in this part of the United States’ western border, then known as the Louisiana Purchase.

Proceeds from the event will go to continue awareness of our Spanish heritage and to the restoration of “old town Riverside” which will consist of the Trujillo School, an Adobe house, and Cantina. The area is located at the corner of Orange and Center.

Those interested in preserving heritage sites such as this often like to get some flyer printing done for these events, and place Flyers around town.

Riverside Tamale Festival will be Saturday, April 13 in White Park, 3936 Chestnut Street from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm.
