Full moon festival rises in Riverside next month
Chinese culture is alive and well in Riverside, and residents will soon be celebrating a time-honored tradition that can be traced back hundreds of years.
The 2025 Riverside Moon Festival is intended to celebrate the unique history of this celebration, and residents are encouraged to attend.
Traditional Chinese moon festivals offer several unique attractions. One popular tradition involves exchanging pastries known as moon cakes. These are sweet handheld treats that often contain fillings such as salted duck egg yolks and lotus seed paste. Guests will be able to try these delicacies during the evening.
Other attractions on the schedule during this year's event include live dance performances, calligraphy demonstrations, Mahjong games, and storytelling by local Chinese resident Barbara Wong. This festival will also provide unique insight regarding how Chinese laborers were essential to the Riverside citrus industry.
Cultural festivals aim to attract a wide audience, which is why marketing techniques will often include methods such as poster printing, the distribution of flyers, and updates on social media circles.
The 2025 Moon Festival will be held on Monday, October 6 between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Similar to other cultural activities, this event will take place at the Riverside Heritage House located at 1893 Magnolia Avenue. Visitors can attend this event for free. All ages are welcome.
