Local college to hold students film festival

This month, the University of California at Riverside will be holding its 2nd Annual Media and Cultural Studies Film Festival.

This event will feature 18 films by students at the university. The viewing will be open to the public and the first 25 guests to arrive will receive free popcorn.

The festivities will happen over three nights. The first will be a showing of all 18 films. Running times will vary, ranging from a little over two minutes for ‘A Bee Stumbled Out’ (a story about a boy and girl meeting), to the 28 minute ‘Slowly We Decay’ (a film about a boy dealing with his best friend’s suicide).

The second evening will be dedicated to an Awards Ceremony and banquet. The final night, actor, producer, and humanitarian Danny Glover will be giving a presentation called ‘A Conversation on Social Justice’. He will be followed by commentary from ASU Professors. Film students may want to trade digital Business Cards at the event.

The films will be shown May 15, 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm, at the Regency Theater, University Village, 1201 A University Avenue, Riverside. Other events, such as the Danny Glover presentation and the awards session, take place from May 16 to May 18. A full breakdown of the event and its times can be viewed on the university’s website.
