An upcoming concert in Hollywood delves into the realm of opera, featuring both vocal and orchestral performances.
The program begins with the Overture to “Pique Dame,” an opera by Franz von Suppé, based on a story by Pushkin, then switches to vocal performances featuring the music of three of Franz Lehár’s works, “Giuditta,” “The Land of Smiles,” and “Eva.”
“Giudetta” is an operatic “musical comedy,” though it ends unhappily. Soprano Diana Damrau will sing “My lips, they give so fiery a kiss” from “Giudetta,” and tenor Jonas Kaufmann will perform “Friends, life is well worth living” from the same opera. “Love is a pilgrim” from “Eva” and “You are my heart’s delight” from “The Land of Smiles” are also on the program. The two artists will also sing “The Watch Duet” from “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss II.
The orchestra will play Strauss’s Die Nasswalderin Polka, and “Wiener Blut,” and the second half of the concert is devoted to Richard Strauss’s “Der Rosenkavalier Suite” from his famous opera.
Diana Damrau and Jonas Kaufmann are two of the biggest stars of opera, both performing regularly at the Metropolitan Opera, and at major houses around the world.
Gustavo Dudamel, who currently serves as the Music & Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will be on the podium for the concert, which is scheduled for September 12 at the Hollywood Bowl. Promoters of shows like this often use brochure printing to create concert programs.
