Historic school building to be renovated as apartments
The proposed Fremont School project has recently been approved by the Spartanburg County Council, paving the way for a potentially valuable property.
The project will create 41 apartments at market rate and increase redevelopment on the Northside of the city of Spartanburg.
The Council used tax incentives whereby the current assessed value of $748,000 of the property will not change for the next 20 years. County Administrator Katherine O’Neill said that once the renovations have been completed, the value of the property is estimated to be $2.8m, and taxes will be paid on this value over that period of time.
The economic development director for the city, Patti Block, said that a developer from Georgia, Pace Burt, will be renovating the vacant school. The resulting 41 apartments will have a monthly rent ranging from $800 to $1,000 a month.
The developer came to an agreement with the city to spend at least $3.5m on the project. The brick school building, which is 102 years old, is on the National Register of Historic Places and the State Historic Preservation Office has approved the project.
Flyer printing companies could be used by developers such as this one to give general information about new apartments, any special amenities, and monthly rents, as well as providing more details about the apartments opening in the near future.
