Rockstar cellist to shake Costa Mesa

A classical cellist who has turned music on its ear is coming to Costa Mesa.

Cellist Stjepan Hauser, who is billed simply as “Hauser”, is a native of Pula, Croatia, where he began his musical career. He studied in Zagreb, London, Manchester, and in the United States. He has performed in over 40 countries and made his debut in venues such as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Royal Albert Hall, and Wigmore Hall.

For several years, he and his fellow Croatian cellist, Luka Šulić, performed as the duo 2Cellos. They played familiar rock and pop songs arranged for cello, along with film and classical music. They released six albums, and appeared on American television in episodes of “The Bachelor” and “Glee.” After 2Cellos disbanded, both artists continued their solo careers.

Hauser really gained a following when he and Šulić performed their instrumental version of Michael Jackson’s hit, “Smooth Criminal,” which went viral. Hauser has continued to pack houses with his blend of classical, pop, and rock music. A review notes:

“Hauser was fantastic… what an AMAZING ENTERTAINER!! Had the whole place rocking with excitement ….”

The Hauser - Rebel with a Cello tour will come to the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa on Sunday, June 23. Organizers of events like this will often work with poster printing companies to create advertising for them.
