The Orange County Fair and Event Center is trying to cultivate a better understanding of farm life and food production at its ongoing open house events. Discovery Day at the Farm invites groups, the public, and especially children to learn about agriculture and animals and how they are raised and used for food.
The event is open to the public and is there are no admission fees. There is also free parking. Groups are able to tour the OC Fair and Event Center's Centennial Farm, a three-acre working farm with livestock and various fruit and vegetable gardens, designed to educate the public about nutrition and California's agricultural history.
Some of the activities in which groups can take part include radish seed planting, where kids can plant a radish seed to take back to their school to watch it grow and maybe even eat. A demonstration of oxen and how these animals were the first farm implements is olso on show, as are cow milking and other livestock demonstrations.
The Discovery Days are open to all grade levels and the general public, however reservations must be made for groups of six or more. This can be done online.
Open house events such as these require Signs, promotional items and printed educational items which can be professionally created and printed at local Print shops.
In April, Discovery Day at the Farm takes place Thursday, April 2 and Tuesday, April 28 from 9:00 am to noon at the OC Fair and Event Center, 88 Fair Drive in Costa Mesa.
