Scotland is coming to Costa Mesa for a couple of days.
The city will soon host its annual Scottish Fest, which is the largest Celtic, Scottish, American Festival in Southern California. The two-day event offers family fun with Scottish athletics, Highland dancing contests, pipe and drum competitions, Scottish foods and gifts, and a chance to explore the clans of Scotland. The little ones will love the Children’s Glen.
Live performances are scheduled to be given by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band, Christopher Yates, and Tempest. The folk-rock group Tempest first got together in 1988, and has become known world over for their energetic performances in which they blend Scottish ballads, Irish reels, Norwegian influences, and other elements of world music into a sound that is entirely their own.
Tempest is based in San Francisco and over the years has released 11 studio albums, two live albums, and four compilation albums. Their latest, “Going Home,” dropped in 2022, and their appearance at the festival will help support it.
Christopher Yates is a New Zealander who has created a gallery of characters he performs at festivals, fairs, and corporate and political events. He might appear as a pirate or a swordsman, engaging the audience with his brand of fun.
