Christmas Boat Parade floats virtual access in 2020

The waters near Costa Mesa will be full of dazzling boats, kayaks, yachts, and canoes in a Christmas tradition that has spanned more than a century.

The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade turns Newport Harbor into an amazing display of lights and colors. Dozens of brightly decorated vessels slowly make their way around Newport Bay, and spectators can choose any number of lookout points onshore where they can watch the boats go by.

New for 2020 is the option of watching everything online. A virtual parade is set up so that anyone, no matter where they live, can watch the parade live as it happens.

The parade’s Grand Marshals have included athletes and celebrities. This year, the Grand Marshals will be frontline works who have been in the trenches through the pandemic. Joining the Grand Marshals will be a representative from a local charity.

The Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce hosts the event. Besides boats, residents can enter their homes in a holiday decoration contest called The Ring of Lights. Print shops can be used to create holiday Banners to decorate homes and businesses.

The 112th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade runs from Wednesday, December 16 to Sunday, December 20. Viewing begins at 6:30 pm and the boats will begin and end the parade at the tip of Lido Isle, less than a 10-minute drive from Costa Mesa.
