A holiday tradition that has welcomed generations of visitors in Costa Mesa is returning.
The Snoopy House holiday display features the popular characters of Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts cartoon series, such as Charlie Brown, Linus, and Lucy. It attracts around 80,000 visitors every year.
A Charlie Brown Christmas first aired on American television in 1965 and has been a holiday favorite ever since. The show inspired local resident Jim Jordan to create a holiday display in 1966, that the public could visit at his family's Costa Mesa home. It was a must-stop for families in the Orange County area for decades.
However, the family came into financial setbacks in 2011, and considered ending the display. The City of Costa Mesa stepped in and saved the day, welcoming the display to Costa Mesa City Hall, where it enjoyed a larger venue and organizers added extra attractions like live music and a free train ride for children.
It is not just Peanuts characters that residents come to see. Santa makes an appearance every night and families and children can get free photos with jolly ole' St. Nick.

The Snoopy House holiday display begins Saturday December 14 and runs nightly through to Monday, December 23 at Costa Mesa City Hall at 77 Fair Drive. Hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Santa arrives every night at 7 p.m.
