One of the world’s greatest violinists will appear soon in Costa Mesa.
Itzhak Perlman was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, and was only three when he tried to join the Shulamit Conservatory. Turned away since he was too small to properly hold a violin, he used a toy fiddle to teach himself until he was accepted, first into Shulamit, then at Tel Aviv’s Academy of Music. He was ten when he performed his first recital, and 13 when he moved to the United Staes to study at Meadowmount School of Music and the prestigious Julliard School.
He came to national attention when he was 13 and appeared twice on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” He began touring Canada and the U.S. and made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 1963. He has soloed with the Vienna Philharmonic, the London Symphony, the New York Philharmonic, and many other major musical organizations.
Although he usually works alone, he has collaborated on projects including a jazz album he recorded with Oscar Peterson, and forays into bluegrass and klezmer music. He added his talent to several films, including playing the theme from “Schindler’s List,” which won the Oscar for Best Original Score.
Mr. Perlman will be at Segerstrom Hall at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts on January 24 at 8.00pm. When artists of this caliber perform, audiences often enjoy learning more about them. Concert organizers can use brochure printing to create informative programs for such an event.
