Spencer Chilliak and Nathan Thoen formed Bombargo in Saskatoon, in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, in 2013. The two met on a trip to the Sasquatch Music Festival, which inspired them to form their own band. They worked well together from the beginning, creating “Let It Grow” the first time they wrote together. The song was their debut single, and appeared on “Back on Main,” their debut EP. SaskMusic included the project in “The Top 10 Best Saskatchewan Albums of 2015.”
With the success of the EP, they went on to release “We Are Bombargo,” a full-length album. Since then, the outfit has grown into a touring band with seven members. They are known for their high-energy shows, particularly frontman Nathan Thoen’s dance moves, which remind people of Mick Jagger. Thoen impressed Sir Richard Branson, who said:
“I haven’t seen this type of energy since The Rolling Stones!”
Branson would know, as he signed the Stones to Virgin Records.
Bombargo got a boost when Taylor Swift added “Mr. No Good,” their 2018 release, to her “Songs Taylor Loves” Spotify Playlist. They were the only band on the list not signed to a label, and they are still independent.
Bombargo will appear at The Wayfarer on West 19th Street on November 12, at 8.00 pm. When events like these are planned, organizers can create effective advertising by using poster printing.
