On September 11, 2001, planes from all over the world were suddenly diverted from American air space, and many of them ended up in the tiny Canadian community of Gander. The town rose to the occasion, and the play ‘Come From Away’ tells the story of these events in a couple of months.
A performance of the play will be staged in Costa Mesa this winter, and Canada’s expats, snowbirds and locals alike are all invited to take a seat in the audience.
The play, which has won a Tony award and has also been a New York Times Critics’ Pick, related how, in the space of just a couple of hours, the community’s population swelled by 7,000 people. Once the passengers were allowed to disembark after many hours of waiting and not knowing what was going on, they were made to feel welcome, and the audience will discover how this all took place.
‘Canadian in Orange County’ has been able to reserve a block of tickets, and it is also planning a pre-show reception and after show mixer with the cast.
