September brings art and science festivals

Flagstaff will have a couple of arty and science-themed events during September.

To start with, Wheeler Park will be the location of this year’s Art in the Park Festival. This tightly juried event will present original works created by fine arts and crafters from the area. Each of the three days will have non-stop live music, food, and a beer garden featuring regional and local breweries. Artisans often enclose their Business Cards with sold items.

Flagstaff Art in the Park will take place over Labor Day weekend, which is September 3 and 4, this year from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and on September 5 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Later in the month, Pyramids to the Peaks will kick off the 34th Annual Flagstaff Festival of Science, a 10-day archeological-themed festival. Dr. Zahi Hawass, a world-renowned Egyptologist, will share his passion for archeological finds in the ancient world of Egyptian gods and pharaohs. This keynote address will take place September 23 in Ardrey Auditorium at Northern Arizona University.

The festival will offer workshops, presentations, guided tours, and programs led by Flagstaff scientists. One such program will be Science in the Park, a series of hands-on math, art, and science activities at Wheeling Park, Saturday, September 24, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The 34th Annual Flagstaff Festival of Science will take place from September 23 through October 2 at various locations.
