For 30 years, the annual Flagstaff Festival of Science has brought science and scientific discovery to residents of Northern Arizona. This year, the 10-day festival will be held online this month.
On the festival’s website, kicking off this year’s event will be a star party at 6:00 pm on Friday, September 18 with David Koerner, followed by the traditional Caped Crusaders of Science Ballet at 6:45 pm. This year’s keynote speaker will be scientist explorer, Christa Sadler, who will be speaking at 7:00 pm. The movie “Picture a Scientist,” chronicling the current rise of women in scientific fields, will be available at 8:30 pm.
Some topics to be addressed during the festival will include geocaching, weather, nature writing, paleontology, anime, the Lake Mary fault, Mars rover updates, bat and cave preservation, and a new thermal area in Yellowstone.
On Tuesday, September 22, there will be Spaceflight poetry, physics of aerial momentum, a science crafty corner, and a look at tintype photography.
The Pioneer Museum will host a virtual open house at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 26 and there will be an Adult Science Trivia Challenge on a Zoom event at Flagstaff’s Public Library later at 7:00 pm.
On September 27, the Arboretum will have an in-person open house starting at 9:00 am and the Arizona Snowbowl will have a Scenic Science Chairlift starting at 10:00 am.
Five levels of sponsorships are available. Each business at the $5,000 and up Supernova Friends level has its logo design on the festival’s website.
