Gore-Tex Products will be holding its 12th annual Kahtoola Uphill mountain race early in February. Along with the aim to encourage fitness, the race will be a Friends for Camp Colton fundraiser.
The event will offer three races. The Fun Climb will take runners up 1.5 miles to the elevation of 650 feet; the three-mile Midway Climb goes up to 1,700 feet, and the Agassiz Climb will be the 3.5-mile run taking the participants up to 2,200 feet. The first male and female to reach the summit will receive the King and Queen of the Mountain awards.
Chip timing will be available for the Midway and Agassiz climbs, and Kahtoola Micro spikes will be available on loan at check-in. Runners are encouraged to dress up and enter the costume contest.
Spectators are invited to stay at the bottom of the mountain to cheer on their favorite runners. Many spectators at events such as this like to get banner printing done beforehand so that they can publicly support their favorite athletes.
Food, fun and festivities will await racers, spectators, volunteers, and supporters at the new start and finish line. Proceeds from the event will go to supporting outdoor education for children, and to Friends of Camp Colton.
The Gore-Tex Kahtoola Uphill Race will be February 9, from 5:30 to 9:00 pm, beginning in front of the Arizona Snowbowl-Fremont Restaurant & Bar, 9300 N Snow Bowl Road.
