Residents of the City of Flagstaff and surrounding areas are invited to attend the two-day Hopi Arts and Cultural Festival coming in late August.
The festival was organized to introduce the public to the talent and culture of the Hopi people, and to help local artisans sell their arts and crafts.
Attendees at events such as this often collect artisan Business Cards, especially because they are sometimes custom printed with an indigenous graphic design.
The day will begin with opening remarks, followed by the Yuwehlo Dance Group performing the Butterfly Dance from 9:30 am to 10:00 am. From 10:00 am to 10:30 am the Hootomqam Dance Group will present the Rainbow and Spear Dance, and The Hopi Post 80 Lori Piestewa Royalty Dance Group will do the Hopi Hualapi Dance from 10:30 am to 11:00 am. The Hooyapi Dance Group will do the Water Maiden Dance and singer and flutist Ryon Polequaptewa will end the morning’s entertainment.
The lineup will be repeated two more times, and closing remarks will be from 4:45 pm to 5:00 pm. Milliand Lomakema, Jr. will be the emcee.
The Hopi Arts and Cultural Festival will take place Wednesday, August 26 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Thursday, August 27 from 9:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Continental Country Club Driving Range, 500 East Old Walnut Canyon.
