Flagstaff goes Celtic next month
Flagstaff will be treated to two days of Celtic and Irish culture at the 2025 Arizona Highland Celtic Festival coming in mid-July.
Guests can enjoy Irish and Scottish dance and bagpipe performances, Highland dance demonstrations, piping competitions, workshops teaching bodhran drumming, baking sessions, and tartan history and weaving classes.
Children's activities may include storytelling. puppet shows, mini–Highland games, and crafts stations for making Celtic knots. Adults may enjoy Irish whiskey, mead, and Celtic gin tastings. This event will be a gathering of Celtic societies and clans. Authentic Irish and Scottish food will be available for purchase and merchandise vendors will be selling Celtic and Irish-themed items.
Flagstaff Highland Games, an integral part of the festival, will feature traditional Scottish athletic competitions like the stone put, hammer throw, and caber toss. This will be the first year the Scottish American Athletic Association will be hosting athletes and the West Coast Championships.
Volunteers will get free entry, T-shirts, and admission to the volunteer party on Sunday evening. Event organizers often go to local print shops and have them create an event logo or graphic, then put the designs on the shirts.
This year’s festival will take place from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturday, July 19 and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday, July 20 at Tuthill County Park, 415 Battalion Road.
The competition will be held both days at 2446 Fort Tuthill Loop, Kachina Village.
