Flagstaff runners and fitness enthusiasts will have a few running options during March.
The first event, the SP Crater Marathon, will be Saturday, March 7. The Marathon leg will begin at 8:00 am; the Half Marathon will begin at 9:00 am; and the 10k and 5k are at 10:00 am. All races cost $35 each and the event will end at 2:00 pm.
The course for all four races will be on dirt roads. The 5k course terrain is flat, and the 10k has somewhat tame up and down hills. The Half Marathon course has beautiful views as it goes up on the SP Crater shoulder. Its downhill will be short, steep and technical. The Marathon course will have terrain much like the 10k.
There will be aid stations along the Marathon route, but they will be spaced farther apart than other marathons so runners are advised to bring hydration packs and extra food.
The SP Carter Marathon will take place at Babbitt Ranches.
March will be Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and on Saturday, March 28, the Annual NACA Colon Cancer 5k Fun Run and 1 Mile Walk will be free and participants will get to attend a health fair afterward.
Family members that enter races like this together often have matching shirts printed with a specific graphic design to show their unity. Registration starts at 8:00 am and the walk/run begins at 9:00 am at Buffalo Park, 2400 N. Gemini Road.
