Flagstaff celebrates New Year with countdowns

Flagstaff will welcomes 2020 with more than one countdown in the area.

Downtown Flagstaff will present Noon Year’s Eve on Tuesday, December 31. This is an opportunity to celebrate during the daylight hours.

Some of the activities before the countdown will include live music, snacks and pinecone art. Noisemakers will be distributed before the counting begins.

The countdown will be led by Coral Evans, the mayor of Flagstaff. When the noon hour strikes, everyone will cheer and toast the New Year with sparkling apple cider and Hershey Kisses. Events such as this offer good backdrops for family pictures. These pictures can then be taken to local Stationery printers to be added to the New Year family calendar.

Noon Year’s Eve will start at 10:00 am and end around 1:00 pm in Heritage Square, 8 W. Aspen Ave.

Later that evening, thousands of revelers will head over to the corner of Leroux Street and Aspen Avenue near the Weatherford Hotel for the annual Great Pinecone Drop. Crowds will gather to watch the six-foot 70lb. lighted aluminum pinecone descend during the midnight countdown. There will be two drops - one time representing New York time (10:00 pm) and the other will represent local time (12:00 pm).

Many partygoers will spend the rest of the night at the Weatherford Hotel’s New Year’s Eve Gala that will take place in the Grey Ballroom.
