Those here in Flagstaff looking for something to do for New Year's Eve will be able to attend the Annual Pinecone Drop at three different times.
For those families with children, or who just want to get their festivities done before dark, there will be Downtown Flagstaff's Noon Year's Eve. This daytime event will offer noisemakers, firework art, snacks, and live music. The Downtown Business Alliance will host festivities leading up to the noon drop, and everyone may enjoy a sparkling apple cider toast after the countdown to noon. Several venues will also host masquerade balls, free dance parties, and live DJs. These festivities will take place in Heritage Square.
The Weatherford Hotel will also be holding its annual Flagstaff Pinecone Drop at 10:00 pm and at midnight, along with fireworks and dancing in the street.
The Weatherford will offer special dinners for $99 in its Charley's Restaurant, and its Zane Grey Ballroom's balcony will give VIP Golden Ticket holders the best viewing of the midnight pinecone drop and fireworks.
The pinecone used for the three drops is a giant 70-pound metal creation lit in ever-changing colored LED lights, and is dropped from the hotel's third story balcony.
Other local hotels such as the High-Country Conference Center and Little America usually offer gala events that include champagne toasts at midnight, along with dinner and dancing.
