Flagstaff celebrates creativity with awards ceremony

The 14th Annual Viola Awards will have a new format, date, and location as the ceremony takes place at the end of April.

Awards will be given in seven categories. The Visual Art category will honor a local curator, organization, group of artists, or individual artist for visual work exhibited in the greater Flagstaff region during 2021. Criteria will include community engagement, conceptual and cultural impact, and technical proficiency.

Performing Arts honors will have the same criteria as the Visual Arts. Recognition can be for direction, performance presentation, or for a specific performer. More than one award can be presented for different disciplines.

Awards for storytelling by local a film maker, writer, podcaster, or group of storytellers producing works in live readings, poems, essays, short stories, or podcasts created in 2021 will have the same criteria as the other awards.

Additional awards will be in music, collaboration, education, emerging artists, community impact, and philanthropy.

The Creative Flagstaff Board of Directors has broadened the scope of its Legacy Award. This year the honor will go to a lifetime contributor to Flagstaff’s culturally engaged, artistic, equitable, curious, and creative community.

Each sponsorship comes with the sponsor’s logo design on event media such as signage, finalists’ videos, after-party screens, and in the event program.

Viola Awards will be April 30 at the Orpheum Theater, 15 W. Aspen Avenue from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
