Flagstaff celebrates Bike Month

Everyone one in Flagstaff will be dusting off their bikes getting ready to celebrate Flagstaff Bike Month coming in May.

A Kick-Off Commuter Ride will be on Wednesday, May 1st beginning at 7:15 am at Flagstaff City Hall. Elected officials and town leaders will head the band of cyclists in a short ride around downtown and back to City Hall.

The following Wednesday, May 8th, Safe Kids-Coconino County will sponsor a Kidical Mass Ride and Ice Cream Social. Bike riders are to be at Sechrist Elementary School by 4:00 pm, and escorted by the local police department, will leave for a 3.5-mile ride along the Flagstaff Urban Trails System. Ice cream treats will be waiting for them afterwards.

Wednesday, May 15th, from 6:30 am to 9:00 am participating businesses around town will be offering breakfast items to cyclists for the Bike to Breakfast Day.

Sunday, May 19th will be the culminating event - the Bike Bazaar, Bike And Gear Swap and Bike Parade. The Annual Human-Powered Parade will begin at 11:00 am in Heritage Square. Bike trains, floats and all shapes and sizes are welcome to participate. Costumes are encouraged.

Before and afterwards from 9:00 am to noon, the Square will have a bike and gear swap, $10 helmet sale, Mountain Line bike loading demonstration, smoothie station, and exhibits on local bike programs, events and commuting safety.
