Presented by the Northern Arizona Celtic Heritage Society, the Arizona Highland Celtic Festival will be returning to Flagstaff's Fort Tuthill County Park in mid-July. The festival will celebrate Celtic language, art, heritage, traditions, and history.
The two-day event will have solo piping; snare, tenor, and bass drumming; pipe band competitions; Highland games; a dance competition; and clans and societies. The games will include Braemar stone, light and heavy hammer, and tossing the caber, which is the large, tapered pole for which Highland events are perhaps best known.
The festival venue will be alive with live Celtic entertainment such as music, dance, kids’ activities, a pirate ship, and workshops on topics such as plants and genealogy. Merchandise and food vendors will be selling Celtic-themed food and wares.
Adult tickets will be $20 for one day and $30 for both days. Child tickets will be $5 for kids from five to twelve, and free admission for younger ones. Military and senior admission will be $15 for one day and $25 for both.
Volunteers may sign up for three-to-four-hour shifts and receive shirts sporting the festival logo design, free admission, and entrance to the Sunday evening volunteer party. Accommodations will be available.
The Arizona Highland Celtic Festival will take place Saturday, July 16 from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and Sunday, July 17 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.
