Springdale to offer training camp for ice skaters

In just a few days, The Ozark Figure Skating Club will hold a training event at the Joel Carver Ice Arena in Springdale.

The Road to Gold is a two-day training experience where people can learn how to skate from two professional athletes. The program's instructors are Gracie Gold and Geoffry Varner. Gold is a US Figure Skating Get Up Ambassador who has won awards like the PSA Sonja Henie Award, while Varner is a national medalist and Jr. World Competitor. Students will have an opportunity to meet and greet with Gold and Varner before the classes begin.

Several lessons will be taught during the skating camp. Students can learn to complete many kinds of jumps, such as double jumps, combo jumps, and beginning triple jumps. The instructors will also cover basic spin positions. The event will even have classes for adults that teach students about toe jumps and edge jumps. Gold will give a lecture on the importance of mental health for skaters who are 12 and older.

The Road to Gold training event will be held from January 3 to 4. The cost of each class offered by Gold and Varner is $30 per person, though members of the Ozark Figure Skating Club will receive discounts on their course costs. The talk on mental health and the meet and greet will be free. Skating arenas that host training events like this may use printing services to promote their athletic programs.
