Next month, Music Moves will host the Freedom Festival 2026 in Springdale, which is held in honor of Juneteenth and is one of Arkansas’s largest celebrations commemorating the holiday.
Juneteenth is a federally recognized holiday that marks the end of slavery in the United States when in 1865 enslaved people located in Galveston, Texas finally learned that they were free people, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had announced such. Now Juneteenth celebrates the richness of African American and Black traditions, including food, music, and cultural traditions.
The Freedom Festival has become an indispensable Springdale tradition, as downtown fills with thousands of people from around northwest Arkansas to reflect, fellowship, and celebrate. The festival will feature a vendor market with local entrepreneurs and businesses, a kids zone with games and activities, horse rides, and performances by Rose Royce, Hurricane Chris, and GS Boyz. Music Moves will also be providing opportunities for attendees to contribute to its mission of advancing the understanding, appreciation, and preservation of Black Music.
