Maribel Childress will soon need business card printing services as she becomes the next superintendent of the Gravette School District after a unanimous vote of the Gravette School Board.
Childress is currently working in the Springdale School District as an assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction, and innovation for grades prekindergarten through five. Prior to that position, she was a principal in one of the district’s elementary schools for 20 years. She attended Louisiana Tech University where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and was awarded an Arkansas Educational Specialist degree from the University of Arkansas in 2000.
The search for superintendent was a districtwide effort that included input from the faculty, staff, and the community, who all felt that Childress embodied the major qualities desiredin a new leader. President of the School Board, Heather Finley, added that Childress has demonstrated that she is an effective communicator and a visionary leader. She has a great deal of knowledge and a strong commitment to the development and progress of students.
The Gravette School district serves over 1,800 students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12 at its four schools, which include two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school.
Childress will start her position on Wednesday, July 1, replacing Richard Page, who will be retiring after eight years in the position.
