Next week, the Downtown Springdale Alliance and the Arkansas and Missouri Railroad will be offering an old-fashioned train ride that will include a wining and dining experience for local area adults.
The Chew Chew train will have three first-class excursion cars that will await dining passengers. A five-course dinner will be served as the train travels through the springtime scenery of Ozark hills on a 68-mile round trip from Downtown Springdale to Winslow.
For the starter course diners can choose chips, hummus, veggies, and dates. The first course will be asparagus, shipped feta cheese and cured egg yolk. The second course will be pears and arugula salad with pickled mushroom and chimichurri sauce. Grilled chicken souvlaki (Greek shish kebab), Persian cucumbers, sorghum tabbouleh (a Mediterranean bulgur wheat dish) and pickled onions will comprise the third course.
Dessert will be honey-kefir (a yogurt-like drink), lemon olive oil cake, rhubarb jam, confit lemon (a concoction of chilled lemon peel and lemon juice laced with oil and garlic) and strawberry pixie dust. The menu has been created by Meredith Butler and Chef Michael Robertshaw from Persephone on Wheels.
The Chew-Chew Train Dinner will be next Thursday, April 26 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm, beginning at the Arkansas Missouri Railroad, 306 E. Emma Avenue in downtown Springdale. Tickets are $135 and will include the train ticket and the dinner. Local organizations could distribute these tickets as Corporate Gifts.
