ALDOT allocates $45m for road projects

Governor Kay Ivey’s office and the Alabama Department of Transportation have announced that counties and cities all over the state, including Montgomery, will receive a combined $45m to fund bridge and road projects.

The money will be sourced from the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II, which was created through the Rebuild Alabama act. It aims to improve transportation infrastructure in Alabama. The act states that ALDOT must commit at least $30m of the revenue received from a new tax on gas.

So far, 27 projects have been selected to receive a share of the $45m. The recipients were not required to match the funds, but some counties and cities were able to contribute as much as $16m towards the projects from local funding. Brochure printing could be used to illustrate the scope of the projects.

As well as Montgomery, some of the other counties that will get funding for their projects include Dallas, Coffee, Lee, Macon, and Wilcox.

Coffee County can expect to get $2m for the construction of a roundabout. An additional $1m in local funding was raised.

A sum of $275,000 will go to Montgomery County for improvements to an intersection at Mitchell Young Road that include a new traffic signal and modifications to the lanes. The county raised an additional $70,000 to go towards the project.
