The zoo in Montgomery is hosting a special day of enrichment for its animals and visitors in late July.
This tour will allow guests to see different animals play with enrichment items, displaying their smarts as well as their charms. The toys do more than just offer something fun for the creatures, in that they also allow them to practice what would be natural behaviors in the wild.
These special days allow visitors to the zoo to see the creatures up close while they get their items. The foods and toys the zoo provides also vary widely based on the species. For example, giving toys to predators that foraging animals normally look for would not lead to the best result. Wildlife such as monkeys and other primates need more mental enrichment, while some animals require greater physical activity.
Montgomery Zoo is still taking many precautions for Covid-19. It asks that guests follow the restrictions set out, including not entering the petting zoo at this time. Avoiding contact with guests outside of one’s own group, as well as the surfaces in the zoo when possible, is also encouraged. Anyone interested in visiting the zoo may visit its website for further policies.
The enrichment day takes place on July 31, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The zoo is located at 2301 Coliseum Parkway.
