Something fishy scheduled for Anchorage

Anchorage has an event scheduled that will offer fun for local anglers.

The city has announced the dates of the Slam'n Salm'n Derby, an annual event that takes place in downtown Anchorage. The location is Ship Creek, where lucky fishermen and women can find silver and king salmon.

Ship Creek is one of the most popular fishing spots in the state, and is unusual since it is literally only steps from the high-rise apartments and hotels in Anchorage. Both residents and visitors enjoy fishing in a spot that is so convenient to their homes or lodgings.

The event is a derby, with prizes going to the people who catch the largest king salmon. People who have come to the city without their fishing gear can visit a number of local businesses, where they can buy fishing licenses and rent boots and fishing poles. Those who would rather watch the fun than fish will find they have an excellent view from the bridge over Ship Creek. Poster printing can be used to publicize events like this throughout the local area.

The annual derby is a fundraiser to benefit the Downtown Soup Kitchen, and lasts for eight days. At this time, the derby is expected to start on June 12, although it is suggested that interested parties check with the Bait Shack, which is presenting the event, about any schedule variations.
