New Anchorage building to house a number of enterprises

A new retail building under construction in East Anchorage will have tenants that Alaskans have been looking forward to patronizing.

The Muldoon building, which is sited at the corner of Muldoon and Debarr Road, has announced it will house a Body Renew gym, and the second BurgerFi restaurant in Anchorage.

One store likely to have residents particularly excited is the Krispy Kreme doughnut shop, as it is the first to open anywhere in the state. Body Renew, which is a nation-wide chain of fitness centers, has four other locations in Alaska, and BurgerFi, another national chain, opened its other Anchorage store in November 2014 in the Mall at Sears.

The Muldoon project is receiving assistance from the Alaska Industrial Development Authority (AIDEA). The total value of the building is projected as $9.33m, $6.3m of which AIDEA will help finance.

The new project comprises 21,132 square feet of retail space, and should create about 20 jobs in construction. Once the building is finished, some 90 new jobs should be created by the building's three incoming tenants. Construction on the project should finish some time in February 2016, when the tenants can move in.

A groundbreaking ceremony has been set for October 7, according to Karsten Rodvik, a spokesperson for AIDEA.

The new stores could consider working with a printer to create ad specialties, such as Pens or Calendars, to give to new customers during their first days of operation.
