Chance to learn encaustic basics at Anchorage art class

The Spenard Art Studio in Anchorage will be organizing an art course in July to teach people about making encaustic paintings.

The 3-Day Essential Encaustic Workshop is a program that introduces people to the art of encaustic painting, meaning using heated wax. During the lesson, attendees will learn about the art form’s history and be taught safety tips. The class will go over several techniques, including how to create stencils, embed objects, and add texture to pictures. Participants receive plenty of studio time and will be given one-on-one instruction. Most required supplies are provided by the studio.

The Spenard Art Studio is an encaustic-focused creative space offering classes taught by Gayla Ranf. She was born in Alaska and has nine years of experience with encaustics and painting. The venue can host team-building events, birthday parties, and family get-togethers. Guests will be required to put on a face covering while inside the studio. Artistic companies like this can use business card printing to give contact details to potential clients.

The encaustic workshop will be from July 23 to 25. Each session at the studio will begin at 10:00 am and end at 4:00 pm. The cost of the program is $395 per student. Participants will be given their own work station and are required to practice social distancing. A list of needed supplies will be given to those who register.
