With the popularity of the outdoor clothing and accessories store, it is hoped that customers will be drawn to the Glenn Square shopping center in larger numbers than ever before.
It has been a long road for the firm, which first mentioned an Anchorage outlet two years ago. With the outlet now up and running and jobs provided to around 200 people in the area, the general manager of the store, Pat Nolde, explained why it made sense to open here. He said:
"We picked this location because of the value, and it's got a great frontage area right off the (Glenn) Highway.
"Plus it's being revitalized -- this whole community is being revitalized, and we think we can be a part of that."
While there are still empty plots at the shopping center, they are being filled as The Anchorage Community Land Trust targets improving key areas.
Shortly before Bass Pro opened, a Mexican Grill restaurant moved in too. The center has also confirmed that Kriner's Diner and an unnamed brewery will open in the near future, so there may be plenty to add once Anchorage officials place their next order with brochure printers.
