Anchorage to hold cross-country challenge

Anchorage will be organizing a skiing and fat bike competition in March that takes participants through an urban environment.

The Tour of Anchorage is an athletic event where people can compete for awards while racing across the city. The course uses tunnels, bridges, and greenbelts to help participants traverse the town without crossing any roads. Each race will end at Kincaid Park Stadium. Cash awards will be given to skiers who partake in the 50K freestyle race and bikers who enter the 50K contest. There will not be an awards party after the competition due to COVID-19.

Some changes will be made to the marathons to keep athletes safe during their experience. All racers must cover their faces during the start and end of their competitions. Social distancing is also required before, during, and after the race. Self-service aid stations are provided for participants, though the booths will only offer water and supplementary snacks this year. Organizers for marathons like these may rely on banner printing to help athletes locate aid stations during the event.

The 34th Annual Tour of Anchorage will be held on Sunday, March 6. Adult prices for the event will cost $95, though discounts are available for those who register before February 1. Members of the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage will also receive a discount. Students aged 13-18 can pay $50 to participate.
