Anchorage to celebrate holidays with cello performance

The Portland Cello Project will perform holiday-themed music at the Discovery Theatre in Anchorage.

The Ugly Sweater Holiday Show is a festive experience where people can enjoy a night of live music entertainment while showcasing their ugliest sweaters. The Portland Cello Project will perform familiar and fresh holiday music with an all-cello band. The show is organized by the Anchorage Concert Association and sponsored by Alaska Airlines. Those in charge of similar performances can advertise the concerts through flyer printing services.

The Portland Cello Project is a band comprised of only cellists who perform at venues that aren’t typically associated with the instrument, such as punk rock clubs, street parties, TED Talks, and flash mobs. The group’s main goal is to increase exposure to cello-based music through community-based outreach programs and musical collaborations. The band started in 2006 and played its first show at Portland’s Doug Fir Lounge. Many CDs have been released by the organization, such as The Thao and Justin Power Sessions and Under the Mistletoe.

The holiday-themed cello concert will be held on December 6th and December 7th at 7:30 pm. Admission to the show will start at $48.50, though discounts are available to those who subscribe to the Anchorage Concert Association. Tickets to the performance can be bought through the Anchorage Concert Association and the CenterTix box office.
