Anchorage organization to offer free welding course

The Alaska Works Partnership will host a class in Anchorage that helps people who are interested in construction-related jobs.

The Ironwork and Welding course is a free program that gives students 40 hours of training to help them prepare for a career in construction. The class combines typical classroom instruction with hands-on activities. The topics covered in the course include horizontal stick welding, hazard awareness, and oxygen and acetylene cutting. The lessons will also go over safe welding practices and teach students how to set up a welding machine properly.

The Alaska Works Partnership is a nonprofit group that was created by Alaska's Building and Construction Trade in 1996. The organization aims to help Alaskans enter the construction industry with its free educational resources. Some of the programs offered by the group include Helmets to Hardhats, Women in the Trades, and the Alaska Construction Academy. Many training courses are provided in Anchorage on topics like telecommunications, carpentry, and power tools.

The program on ironwork and welding will be held from Monday, April 8th to Friday, April 12th, and each session will last from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Those interested in the course must be interviewed for a spot in the class in advance.
