Anchorage residents were treated to the funny sight of more than 700 people running down the street decked out in their best Halloween attire.
The city recently played host to a race that combined the fun of wearing a costume with the friendly competition and enjoyment of getting some exercise in the great outdoors.
The Skinny Raven Frightening 4K race course started near the Captain Cook hotel, then made its way to Ship Creek and looped back to the finish line. Though their costumes may not have been ideal for running a road race, they were not enough to slow anyone down as they tackled the 2.5-mile course.
The winner was former UAA cross country winner and current SeaWolves Assistant Coach Hallidie Wilt, who beat 774 others as the fastest runner. She completed the course in just 13 minutes and 47 seconds.
The race time was not the only competition of the day; there was also a costume contest and a cookie decorating challenge. Hay rides provided a chance to relax after the competition. This will be the last Skinny Raven road race until its Turkey Trot later this month.
An event like this provides people with a chance to come together and have fun as a community. Printing companies can play a part by creating race bibs, a festive race banner, finish line ribbons, and other printed materials for the day.
