Falkirk set for new skills training centre

Falkirk is set to be the home of a brand new employment training centre, with the confirmation financing for this project has now been secured.

The completed facility will be given the name Scotland’s Centre of Excellence for Canals and Traditional Skills. The location chosen for its construction is by the side of the Forth and Clyde Canal, close to Lock 16. It will be built as a result of a team-up between Historic Environment Scotland and Scottish Canals. When it opens, the centre will be dedicated to teaching traditional skills.

Much of the financing for the project has come from the National Lottery, which is contributing £3.7 million towards the cost. The aim of the centre is to ensure that skills central to Scottish heritage do not die out. Among those that will be taught there are environmental conservation, blacksmithery, stonemasonry and thatching.

When new educational centres like this are ready to launch, they will want to advertise the various classes that they offer. One of the options available for doing this is to use brochure printing, which can be designed by Falkirk print shops.

Angus Robertson, the culture secretary, stated that these skills were central to Scottish history. He added that this new centre would make sure they are taught for generations to come.

A start date for construction has not yet been announced.
