Falkirk Council scheme earns award nomination

A regeneration scheme developed by Falkirk Council is in the running for a major national award.

This scheme was called the Slamannan Regeneration Project and it cost £500,000 to deliver. Now it has made it onto the final shortlist for the SURF Awards 2026, where it is nominated in the category ‘Improving Scotland’s Places.’ SURF stands for Scotland’s Regeneration Forum, which is the organisation that set up and that runs the annual awards.

The project devised by Falkirk Council was for a site in the nearby village of Slamannan. This land used to be home to the Royal Hotel, but that was knocked down two years ago. The local authority turned the vacant space into a pocket park, thanks to a combination of interpretation panels, seats, and plants that attract wildlife.

The council is often keen to promote local areas of interest to tourists, such as parks. Falkirk has brochure printing outlets that can supply the information Brochures needed for that.

Falkirk Council Acting Leader is Paul Garner. He was quoted by the council website as saying:

“To see a project in Slamannan shortlisted alongside regeneration work from across Scotland is a real achievement and recognition of the difference this investment has made.”

The council engaged in a consultation with residents before embarking on the project.

All award winners will be announced at the ceremony in Glasgow on 10th December.
